FOOTNOTE- JEEP TJ, XJ, YJ & ZJ Track Bar and Anti-Sway mount modifications: Anti-Sway bar end link brackets and lower track bar bolts can interfere with the tie rod or drag link bars depending on the tubing size requested, suspension lift size, steering stop adjustment and other variables. Sizing the tubing and measuring obstacles before ordering is the first step. To address these issues, previous Bullet Proof Steering owners have offered these suggestions…
1-a) You can use an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel and remove the stock sway bar end link mounts if they interfere. You can simply remove the sway bar (most applications do not see any benefit from this being retained and will be a detriment to offroad suspension articulation), or cut just enough off of the mounts to allow for clearance with the new linkage while still maintaining enough material to weld the new brackets to.
1-b) Adjustable end links can probably get away with only modifying the passenger side bracket and leaving the drivers side alone.
1-c) Stock type end links may require a simple fabrication of identical brackets for both sides to retain the sway bar. Be sure to make any bracketry from no less than 1/4" thick steel to prevent the bracket from bending under load. Welding them on rather than bolting will eliminate the bolts from ever loosening up.
2) Thicker tubing selections may come into contact with the lower track bar bolt. Grinding the bolt head slightly and turning in the steering stops a bit will alleviate this condition. If all else fails, rounding and smoothening the bolt head will allow the tubing to tolerate occasional contact with only minor rubbing of the powder coat as a result. This can further be eliminated by wrapping the tubing area with a small strip of stainless steel sheet metal at the contact point to eliminate damage to the powder coated finish.
3) One customer reported, "on my 2000 TJ, all I had to do was change my passenger sway bar mount and shorten the sway bar link but the track bar gave me some trouble so I cut the mount off the axle and removed about an inch and a half from the back side of the bracket then welded it back to the axle and that solved all my clearance issues and the track bar works just as good as it did stock."
FOOTNOTE- JEEP TJ, XJ & ZJ Track Bar issues: The stock OEM Jeep track bar utilizes a tie rod ball joint style connection at the upper frame mount which has been documented by numerous owners as a common failure concern. The ball joint in this position required to hold the pressure of the lateral movement of the entire weight of the truck and suspension movement is prone to failure. The most effective way to eliminate this issue is to fabricate an upper track bar mount similar to that of a pre-1980 ford 1/2 style track bar mount, in which the connection bolt is position parallel to the ground on a horizontal plane rather than the current ball joint being pointed in a vertical plane. Then one of our Bullet Proof Track Bars utilizing a much stronger and durable longer lasting Bullet Proof Spherical Rod end can be installed, thus solving the problem of continually repeated upper track bar joint failures.
