The upper ball joint of the OEM link is small in size with limited articulation. The Bullet Proof Solution™ replaces this with a heavy duty mount and a Stage-II Extreme Duty™ Spherical Rod End.
The solid link material is made from a relatively soft metal and extremely small in diameter. The Bullet Proof Solution™ replaces this with a super strong Trail Proof™ Tube with an even stronger optional Race Proof™ or Rock Proof™ tube if desired.
The lower ball joint of the OEM link is also small in size with limited articulation. The Bullet Proof Solution™ replaces this with a Stage-II Extreme Duty™ Spherical Rod End. Note small stud!
Shown here is a stock OEM tie rod revealing the fragile nature of it's many weaknesses from limited joint angle, minimal joint size and small diameter rod size. When lifting these trucks the lower tie rod end ball joint runs out of articulation travel rather quickly. Once the tie rod end binds it either breaks itself, or bends the rod.
Luckily this stock OEM tie rod only bent after some hard use. Notice it bent right at the threads and at it's weakest part. As soon as the lower tie rod end ball joint ran out of travel and ran into a bind situation, the increased stress can cause the rod to "bow" eventually resulting in an bend in the rod.
Unfortunately this is the more common result of an OEM tie rod failure, and that's a break and separation. This is a dangerous situation to find yourself in and one that certainly needs room for improvement. And if the rod didn't break, either of the joint ends would.
Note the increased size and beef of the Massive Bullet Proof Tie Rod™ assembly, compared to the OEM version beneath. The Close Quarters Bend™ corrects the lower joint angle to reduce bind and increase wheel travel articulation as well accept larger lift kit geometry. The special direct bolt on Upper Bracket eliminates the weak OEM ball joint design as well as allows for unlimited vertical travel. Notice the Bullet Proof Rod End is nearly at a zero angle allowing full up as well as downward travel whereas the OEM version is max'd out and binding.
